:He has shade, but it has been 90 and above for so long. I hate to leave him inside when it is not raining, cause I like him to get some sun. Today, he only poked his head out at 11:00 AM... Usually it is around 9:30 - 10:00 AM.
But what you say makes sense. Since I have only had him for about a month and a 1/2 (and he was in a pet store.... He did chow down...
Just the last couple of days he has quite leveled off. Maybe it is exactly as you say, maybe it is a combination of both heat and catching up. He is active and pooping though, so for now .... Guess I will just monitor him.
THANKS Brad!

Info I have read indicates that in their natural settting,
: Russian torts do slow down when the temperature
: goes over 85F. Is he kept in a place where
: he has no place to go that is cooler than 85?
: If so, he'll probably dig in somewhere and
: lay low until it cools off.
: When I first got each of my Russians, they
: did the same thing: 1) Eat like there
: was no tomorrow 2) Then level off.
: They are stressed out and underweight from
: being imported and kept in the petshop. They'll
: eat until they catch up, and then just eat
: to maintain. Monitor his weight and make
: sure he doesn't lose say, 10% of his weight.
: No need to run to the vet now. If he's eating
: and pooping and moving around, he's probably OK.
