In an earlier post Andy mentions that a nutritional availability out paces calcium availability (the way I understand the statement) resulting in pyramiding. I question why some tortoises raised on certain diets grow rapidly with no signs of pyramiding. They look totally perfect but when you do a 'tap' test on the shell it is obvious the bone is not fully developed. In addition the plastron is flexable. I've seen this in 4 inch leopards. It is for this reason that I question the importance of environmental factors having just as much importance as nutritional factors.
