I rescued a baby box turtle over ten years ago from a pet store that had gone out of business. They had left over one hundred herps to die. Unfortunatly this baby box was one of only a few animals to survive. The Wisconsin DNR had contacted me to adopt as many turtles as I could handle. I took two, one died the next day. The hatchling was malnurished and suffered rickets real bad. Her toe nails were bent in all directions. She had a will to live. I nursed her until scarlet could walk normal and then I found a new home for her. At the time I had too many animals to count.
I just got a call from scarlets mother today. She is still alive and doing well, ten years latter. It was good to hear that such a sick animal is still going strong.
It is well worth the time and money to help our less fortunate kin of Gods creation.
