Building an outdoor enclosure for Red-foots, need advice.

I live in southeast Michigan, so my red-foots can only enjoy about 4 months outdoors. I want to landscape the enclosure, but I could use some advice on what plants would be safe. I was going to use some potted hibiscus, for decoration and for their nibbling enjoyment. Are there any permanent plants or shrubs that would last against our Michigan winters and these football-sized tanks(with bottomless appetites!)? Any feedback would be appreciated. The enclosure will measure 6'x10', if that helps.
