Hi. I am also new to leopard torts, but I have learned a few things. I also keep red-foots.
The "diet" your friend gave you is inappropriate for any tortoise, check out the care sheets at tortoise trust.
I would reccommend a vet visit and de-worming with panacur and flagyl, if you can provide a stool sample, great! if not, I recommend doing it anyway as most WC torts have parasites.
My leopard tort loves dandelions, especially the flowers. I also feed him grasses and cactus. He has timothy hay available always. Usually he digs into it and sleeps, occasionaly he will nibble some.
I do not offer any of my torts water in their enclosures, I find it makes a mess and is harder for me to keep clean. I soak them once a day for about 1/2 hour.
I am not an expert, like I said, but I hope this little bit of info helps. Definatly check out the tortoise trust webpage for their caresheets!!
