: Age is very hard to define in torts, as you mention. Russians do grow fast, but your pet store probably doesn't know, since most Russians are imported. 4 inches is still a pup though, unless it has been severely stunted.

: : Hi everyone,
: : I recently purchased a Russian tort. I have had two red-ear sliders for three years and it is easy to tell that they are almost four years old by their scutes. However, when I purchased my Russian, the pet-shop owner said that he was under a year.(?) He is about 4 inches long... I didn't think they grew that fast. His scutes also don't show that he is that young. What is the easiest way to tell how old he is? I don't mind having an older tort (he's so sweet), but I want to know if I was misinformed!
: : Thanks, Maryann

Thanks Morgan,
I know that the rings on my sliders' scutes help determine their age... Even though my Russian has quite a bit of rings, he is still a pup? In either case it is fine. He's a great little guy.
