As I mentioned before, the only species I've heard of interacting were the giants.
I haven't kept redfoots, but many species of turtle and tortoise should only be housed together in very large setups and should be monitored regularly. Males can stress females with mating attempts repeatedly. Males can fight other males. Females can fight other females... even gentle seeming herbivores can be quite vicious to each other, or slowly stress and wear down one another over time.
Keeping two together, of any species I've kept, presents no noticeable benefit to the animal. The owner may project his/her own feelings onto the animal and think it is lonely, but there is no way to know. It is possible to know and see injury, stress, and illness from multiple animals.
In addition, you NEED to get your animals vetted, checked for parasites and bacterial problems that they could pass to each other. Even if each one appears in perfect healthy, they can harbor death for the other. Quarantining and vetting is the only solution.
