In the 2001 paper:
A current assessment of the status of the snakes of the genera Cannia and Pailsus, including descriptions of three new subspecies from the Northern Territory and Western Australia, Australia.

There were no fewer than 31 uses of the word "ventral" including several times with direct reference to the comparative counts between PNG Pailsus and Aussie ones and also between these and "Pseudechis australis".
