38 locals and 137 snakes! My hat is off to you, and your spouse!!! Wish I had the time and money for that (and a spouse who would allow it!) many specimans.
Just for the record I am on the fence with this issue. I think having people like yourself and Roy who preserve the natural order is important, but breeding for certain traits within a breed is not in my eyes equal to "playing god". Living in Wisconsin and having a father in the meat business I know our milk and beef production would not be what it is today without selective breeding. In fact if food production had not advanced due to tech advances ( hybrid crop seed, cows ect ect ect) we would have a hard time supplying enough food for our increased population. I think in a world struggling with the clone, breeding two same species snakes that exist 20 miles apart in the wild does not seem so bad. Also maybe those snakes one caynon apart might have traveled back and forth 200 years ago before there was a town and 6 lane highway in the mile or two that lies between them?
Well thanks for sharing your opinion! I have not heard from anyone who highly supports crossbreeding, so I think most agree with you or are on the fence like I am.
