: Currently our family owns 2 Rosy Boas and 4 Leopard Geckos (in addition to fish, frogs, hamsters etc) and I have a question about acceptable breeding practices. In the Leopard Gecko world the most popular and highest regarded professional breeders seem to be those who successfully streamline geckos genetically into new designer or albino combinations. With the Rosy Boa anyone who crossbreeds different locale specific snakes seems to be outcast. My question is why? For myself if a breeder came up with a new color variation by cross breeding that my family found interesting we would be happy to own one and might even pay a premium price for the snake.
: Ok , so I am trying to stir a little debate or exchange of opinions. I want to know the reason behind the difference in views from lizards to snakes.

> Great question. As with any personal believes/opinions you are going to get a broad spectrum. Me personally, I'm on Roy's team. To some it sounds dumb, but I don't think anybody should "play god". There is a reason the animals in the wild are the way they are. While some of the designer snakes we put on this planet are pretty, I personaly appreciate the uglyest locality specific rosy, or any reptile for that matter, than a man made creation. I think the only true harm of these types of animals would be if folks were to release them back in to the wild, polluting any natural gene pool that has taken who knows how long to evolve. I currently have 38 different rosy localities in my collection, totaling 138 rosys and I know all the data pertaining to each animal. I'm just anal that way. If I could not be provided with the history data of any rosy, I would not have it in my collection. My wife thinks I'm obsessive, and I probably am, but that's what I beleive in. Like Roy said, it's all about the integrity of the animals. Again, this is just my personal opinion. If anybody wants I list of the localities I have, just email me.

Keep on trivin, Jer
