It has been used for a very long time with parrots. And bird’s needs are greater and more sensitive. So yes it is safe to use for a calcium source. Just crush it up =). But make sure you still use your regular vitamin and calcium supplements. This is just something to leave in the cage for egg laying females. No other need to really use it, they get enough from there normal supplements.
