Way back when I was 15 yrs. old (1965) I had a realy nice female garter snake get loose, it ended up in a neigbors yard and the lady called the cops (guess she didn't know it was mine), anyhow I was curious when I saw an officer arrive and get out of the black-n-white with a shotgun! By the time I realized what was going on he had blown the 3' garter's head off with his 12 gauge, this guy was all of 225 lbs and scared to death! Unfortunatly they just aren't (or at least weren't) set-up or interested in identification! The deal with the show was most likely they tried to give the impression it was something dangerous (still no excuse) If they let viewers know it was a black snake, they realy blew it!
