These species certainly can be housed together. In your case, the problem isn't that they're different species, but that there's an enormous size differential. You'd be practically inviting the large one to dine on the small one, no matter how well-fed the large one is. So, don't do it until the younger snake has grown to the point where it is about two-thirds or more the size of the larger one.
