I noticed that the heads of my bairds, resemble corn snakes. I knew that corns were Elaphe guttata guttata and that the bairds are elaphe obsoleta bairdi, however i did not know why one was called a rat and the other a corn, other than personal preference? hehe
I have subocs and blue beaties as well and even though they are a rat snake, did not resemble the corn/baird similarities. Thank you for answering this obviously stupid question.

: Corn snakes are Elaphe guttata guttata. FWIW the corn is also sometimes called the red rat snake. Most rat snakes are members of the genus Elaphe, though there are some "rat snakes" that are in other genera. Common names (like rat snake) do not have to make taxonomic sense. 8-)
