Oh, how true. My good friend Madison, a 3 foot oketee corn snake, has often thrilled our household with his daredevil antics. we caught on pretty early that he could get up the side of the aquarium, but we have a 10 lb metal lid on it, tight, so it's going nowhere. and he's accepted that (after a year of fighting the odds) and 90% of the time, he's entirely docile and loves to play in our hands. but that other 10% of the time, him we call "Madman". he loves to do thinggs like launch himself like a cruise missile off of my arm. luckily, i've gotten pretty good at detecting when he's prepping for liftoff, but unfortunately ,that just means he's gonna have to cook up some new tricks to push the limits of hobbyist animal containment.
simon was climbing when we met him. in fact, that's why i chose him of all the snakes at the show that day, he seemed to be the only snake as interested in the people as we were in the snakes, and not afraid to get right up to the top of the glass so he could look ya in the eyes. he has demonstrated an impressive grasp of the "lull them into a false sense of security and then run like the devil"

: OK, I just get home from school. My friend calls me. I go to my room to answer the phone. As I am talking to my friend, my little Taiwan beauty rat snake was out in her cage....roaming around....So i decide to take her out. Well....one hand was occupied by the phone, and the other was opening the cage. I lift it up and my ratsnake scales the aquarium side! She sits at the top...and looks at me....ALmost smiling...Then she jumps out of the cage onto the floor(shes a 18inch snake and it was a 3 foot drop!) I attempt to grab her but she turns around and strikes at me, and being the novice that I am...I let go... So...she runs free! Into a pile of junk. I finally retrieved her, after 5 minutes of chasing. I put her in the cage and looked at my room. It was totally messy and stunk of snake musk! I cant wait till my snakes get their own room!

: p.s... I might have grabbed her too hard. I was pinning down her tail. I feel bad. Im going to watch her a few days, just to make sure she is ok. Happy Herping!
