Why would you prefer to collect a wild one? Normal black rat snakes are cheap enough. And buying a captive-bred snake means that your local ecosystem isn't deprived of an important predator.
: I would appreciate any general advice on collecting black rats in the wild, such as best time of year/day etc.
: I was given a WC 98 hatchling when it was no more than a few weeks old and kept it until it ecaped at just over a year old.
