I ask because the Gulf Hammock ratsnakes I've found in Levy County, which did indeed look similar to your lovely specimen, were all the sweetest ratsnakes I have ever encountered anywhere. Even freshly wild-caught they made no attempt to bite nor closed-mouth strike, they didn't rattle their tails or even go into a defensive coil (on the contrary, some balled up and shyly hid their heads), and they didn't thrash at all in hand. Not at all like the nasty ol' yellow rats I've found here in Gainesville.
Of course, NONE have ever sought me out to share some couch time with me!... :^]
