The first Gulf Hammock ratsnake I found was so placid in hand that I even thought he might be sick, so I kept him for awhile to nurse him back to health. He was fine all along, of course (and certainly had a healthy ratsnake's hearty appetite!), so after a couple of months I returned him exactly where I'd found him. In my opinion, they are very under-appreciated snakes.
