I lived and herped for several years in the Franklin Mts (and surrounding areas) and have seen dozens of Bogeys from that range (and many dozens of preserved individuals as well). I have never seen a bogey from the Franklins that was gray (or silver). I believe that "myth" came from a line Alan Tennant included in his first Snakes of TX book.
Snakes in the northern parts of the range tend to be greener (rather than yellow) but they are at best a light olive yellow in color. They are beautiful, but they certainly aren't gray. I have also seen very orange snakes come out of the Franklins.
The "silver" morph in captivity appears to be an anerythristic type thing.
