Wish I could find my pictures of the Wisconsin locale westerns. They're ground color is light and some are bright yellow. The fox snake range is a northern range. The ones at the lower part of the range tend to be lighter, at least from the pictures I've seen. So it might still hold true that the ones that are more southern are lighter. My friend and partner, Del Alspaw, obtained a pair of locale Canadian Bullsnake this year from Mr. Bart Bruno. We were surprised that they are lighter than the Iowa bulls. And yes, I feel there is a connection to pituophis. I wish I could come up with something of taxonomy study. Dick Bartlett acknowledged Jim Harding as contributing to his fox snake section in his Corn Snake and other Rat Snakes book.
