You might want to consider a compromise between the two choices. I have had good results with this method in the past.
Continue forcefeeding for the next 2-3 weeks, to provide as much nutrition as you can.
Then put him through a short brumation, only 4-5 weeks at 55°. After clearing the gut of course.
This will minimize the time spent without food, while giving the benefit of brumation, which often results in a feeding snake once warmed up.
I have done this in the past with mountain kings, and the majority would come out of the cool period and begin feeding on their own.
