Should force-feeding continue?

My hatchling black rat - who hasn't eaten on his own since I got him - is still being force-fed. He's too small[thin] to brumate, and I understand that he'd naturally stop eating around now, but I'm pretty sure his present weight won't carry him through the winter.
Should I continue power-force-feeding him [one small pinky every 3 days, to bulk him up] or should I cut down on feeding throughout the winter to minimize stress?
