Are you sure the snake isn't going to shed? If it isn't I would go ahead and cool the snake. It may be active because it's natural instincts are telling it to search out a brumation spot. At any rate, cooling will not hurt it at all assuming the snake is otherwise healthy. Cool, dark place at 55-65 deg for 2-3 months.
