Have you tried washing the pinkie before feeding the snake. Many hatchling snakes will take washed pinkies. I agree with the earlier post to leave him alone for a week or two and then try again with a washed pinkie. I don't know if this makes a differance, but I have always used the green Palmolive dishwashing liquid. Wash the pinkie with the soap, rinse it well and then let it dry before putting it in the cage. If nothing works, cool him down as soon as possible for the winter. Often, difficult snakes come out of hibernation ready and willing to eat.
: No, not talking about forum fire-breathing.
: I had to forcefeed my hatchling obsoleta again tonight. It was a nightmare.
: I forced a pinky down his throat - the WHOLE pinky - he kept trying to spit it up, he knotted around my hand and caught his tail in his mouth...if it's true that snakes get mouthrot from having teeth broken off, I'm surprised he's not foaming at the mouth already - he's lost so many teeth on my hand, the pinky, the tweezers, his tail...
: Once I misaligned his jaw so badly he couldn't get it back into place [pushing a pinky in, he thrashed, his bottom jaw caught on the top one].
: I can't do this anymore. I honestly can't. I feel like I'm killing him by degrees.
: Please, does anyone have ANY tips that I could use to get him feeding on pinky mice? Bearing in mind that I can't get lizard tails or live mice, and he hasn't responded to chicken or lizard scenting, braining, mouse blood, being left overnight with it...etc.
: Sorry for the rant. It was really bad tonight.
