: I found a small (~13") rat snake in my house today and caught it. I was pretty busy, so I put it in a small jar w/a loose lid on it. We had bad storms and high winds tonight and it blew over the jar (jar was next to window). Now the snake is loose in my house. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to re-capture this guy? Any ideas will be appreciated. I'm pretty sure that it's harmless, but I have 7 yr. old daughter and don't want her freaking out if she finds it. Thanks!
HEY THOMAS,
GENERALLY SPEAKING RAT SNAKES ARE TERRIFIC ESCAPE ARTIST. IF THIS SNAKE IS STILL IN YOUR HOUSE THERE ARE A COUPLE OF PLACES TO KEEP YOUR EYE ON.
1. UNDER YOUR REFRIDGERATOR: WARMTH AND WATER FROM THE CONDENSATION PAN CAN BE FOUND.
2. WASHERS AND DRYERS ALSO PROVIDE WARMTH FROM COOLER TEMPERATURES DUE TO A/C.
DON'T BE SUPRISED IF YOU NEVER SEE THIS SNAKE AGAIN. IN MOST CASES YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF CATCHING THIS ELAPHE IN THE WILD.
KEEP YOUR EYE OUT
AND WITH ANY LUCK YOU'LL FIND IT AGAIN.
