Get a copy of "Understanding Reptile Parasites" and read the section on crypto. Your description sound like it could be a paraphrase of the description given there.
I have had two snakes develop crypto. Both were wild caught elaphe. Fortunately I had some level of quarantine, and it doesn't appear to have spread to any of my captive bred snakes.
I just got rid of the second one, and I am done with wild caught specimens for good. I've got too much invested in non-native captive bred animals to risk it.
