hatchling umbillicus

Well, my healthy yellow rat snake hatchling seems to be growing, and it has been about a week since he was hatched, but he still has that yoke sac thingy on him Is that normal? How long should he have that there? I was expecting a couple of days but it has been a week now.

Could it be because of his environment? All I have him on is paper towel and a little petrie dish full of water in a sweater box. I don't have a hide in there because he usually climbs under the paper towel so I didn't think he needed additional hiding space. Should I give him more humidity? The "sac" is all brown and dry...
