In Reply to: He meeds more than just tails... posted by patricia sherman on August 31, 2001 at 04:29:15:
...It's that I can't shove them down his throat. He had one almost halfway down before and still spit it out; he makes his throat very small, and I'm unable to push it down any more than that. I have tried stroking his throat...no dice...he still writhes and spits and chucks it out...looking very indignant as he does so. I also can't feed him for a while, as he's just gone into shed (gone blue for the first time since I've owned him...got him in July...weird) and I don't want to keep disturbing him. [though I do lift up the hidelog and check on him all the time...I'm a little paranoid.]
I may accept your offer; I need to see how much money's left over after I go boa-shopping this paycheck. ;) I would certainly like to have a constant supply of pinkies, though - and I REALLY wish I could find some live ones in town!

: We've corresponded on this before. Your baby needs more than just mouse-tails. Sure, the tails are tiny, and therefore quite easy to get down; but they're not providing enough nutrtition for your baby to survive.
: I know that it is hard to obtain pinkies in Lloydminster. My son purchased your baby's sibling for me, and he tells me that they charged him $1.00 each for a dozen pinkies. I can't recall where I read it, but I've seen a recipe for feeding babies using Gerbers or similar baby-food from a jar. This has to be mixed with a small volume of water to make it more fluid, then administered by syringe.
: It isn't something I'd resort to except as the last extreme. Before trying that, I'd try force-feeding whole newborn pinkie-mice.
: I presently have about five-dozen frozen on hand here, and am willing to split the cost of shipping with you, if you want me to arrange to send them down there to my son. Let me know. Shipping won't be cheap; however, it would assure you that you had an adequate supply available.
