Studies have been shown that animals can actually feel the ice crystals forming in their bodies as they freeze. [how they show this, I couldn't tell you; just parroting a little here]
If you have CO2 and know how to use it [for humanely killing rodents, etc.], go for it. It'll work as well and probably be less painful for the snake.

: So I took a sterile scalpel and gently cut into the egg. I cut a small slit at a 90 degree angle to the original one, and I pressed on the bottom of the egg just a little when the snake came out. There was this huge fold in the snake, and another smaller one--like where his belly had grown together. He is out now on paper towel and has an umbilicus on him, but he can't really slither around because he is all folded up! Is there no hope for him now? Should I just euthanize him? How can I do that? With CO2?
: Thank you,
