Well, in my impatience and the lack of more information, I cut in to the egg. I know I probably shouldn't have, but I couldn't imagine that poor snake sitting there and dying and it being all my fault. I thought that he was stuck and that I could help him.
So I took a sterile scalpel and gently cut into the egg. I cut a small slit at a 90 degree angle to the original one, and I pressed on the bottom of the egg just a little when the snake came out. There was this huge fold in the snake, and another smaller one--like where his belly had grown together. He is out now on paper towel and has an umbilicus on him, but he can't really slither around because he is all folded up! Is there no hope for him now? Should I just euthanize him? How can I do that? With CO2?
Thank you,
Amanda
