I still do understand what you mean.
I have not seen too many morphs of E (O).oxycephala, so I do not feel comfortable commenting on that. I am sure that you do know what you are talking about. Still, have you done any scale counts???
If there is going to be a major debate on this, then I will post the scale counts and head scalation key. But, still you should get this book if you do not have it yet.
What it comes to distribution of E.oxycephala, it seems that all the records from Sulawesi are actually E.janseni. This meaning that these two species do not inhabit same areas. In my mind I have no doubt that these species are VERY close relatives, but also this is a very nice case of isolated island population evolving to a species of its own.
Well, I do feel that there will be more to this.
