Chris has acouple of good points that I agree with, and I'd like to add a bit of personal experience with that species. I'm keeping and breeding (my first clutch for this year is hatching as I'm typing this) 2.2 E. scalaris. All my E. scalaris like to burrow and obviously use their pointed rostral scale to do so almost like a shovel, pushing the substrate up as opposed to just diving into it. They also hiss like Pituophis when they feel threated and when they get picked up.
