In Reply to: My Black Rat Escaped- Any Ideas? posted by GPGirl on July 29, 2001 at 10:45:05:
Hey, I know how you feel - the first night I had him, my juvenile calking got out. Wonderful.
Check along the baseboards, move furniture - I found my king under my mattress! [on the floor] Watch your cats/dogs for any aberrant behaviour...in fact, that's how I found my king...when I realized he was missing, I remembered that my cat had been swatting at something earlier - I checked around there - there he was.
If you live alone, or if your household won't mind, try sprinkling flour all over the floor at all the doorways. [all over the entire floor if you don't mind sweeping it all up later.] You'll be able to track her better - narrow it down to one room or another.
I've got a hatchling black rat myself...I know how small they are...so good luck. =)

: So far I've picked up everything on the floor, shaken it out to make sure there wasn't a baby snake in there (she's only about 16"). I blocked off the door when I realized she was missing, although it's possible I just prevented her getting back into my room. I've also left a large pinky next to a hide, that was around midnight. So far the pinky hasn't been eaten.
: I'm really worried about her, I have two cats and a dog that I'm sure would be very happy to find her. I don't think I'll find her (at least alive) but I hope I will. Any suggestions are welcome. I still have to clean off the bottom shelves to make sure she's not in there.
