I am not sure how they are categorized but they appear more racer-like to me. They are awesome snakes. I have kept mine on all sorts of substrates without any problems, dry or humid, warm or cool. They seem to tolerate a wide range temps and humidity. Youngsters have attitudes but the few that I work with have outgrown that. My adults don't enjoy being held but don't try to bite or even inflate their necks at all. They just tolerate me but will lunge out for anything they think they can take off on. The big ones are truly impressive and almost appear "mamba-like" as they cruise through the branches of their enclosures. They have superior eyesight and notice even the slightest movements. They flick their tongues in slow motion and slam sm-med rats down in under 10 seconds. True captive bred specimens are rare and the most yellow coloration is the most desireable. Check this forum within the next couple of days for some pics of f2 babies of a high yellow nature(I hope!). Hope this helps.

: I am about to get a tiger rat snake or a Spilotes pullatus pullatus. Are they really a rat snake or not? I have heard that they are not to be concidered as a rat snake. Oh well, I will get one whenever I get some money :) I would like to have some help with the care for the spilote. I have read some caresheets and all that, but I would like to get some info from people that actually keeps them and have experience with them. I know about their reputation concerning their temperatment and I am prepared for that. That doesn't scare me off. I got huge respect for them though and realize that they will not be the snake I will pic up and hold. I've got my Irian Jaya carpet and Guyana red-tail for that.

: One more question. Where can I get hold of one? I know snake museum has some for $150. I know some people that will sell one to me for $60-$100, but I don't trust them to well.
