Great story! I hate to hear about escapes... but the recoveries always make good stories. Two years ago I had an entire clutch of kingsnakes escape (about 8 hatchlings, if I remember correctly). Luckily, I noticed they were gone just a few hours after I had moved them into a new shoebox, and figured they couldn't have gone far. That afternoon, I found all but one. At the time I had two indoor cats and a very large dog, and I live in Washington, so between the predators and the cold weather, I wrote the missing hatchling off after a few weeks. Last month (TWO YEARS after the escape!!!) my husband was mowing the lawn and found the missing kingsnake in a part of the yard he had just mowed. It was kind of limp, and we figured it had been run over by the mower. We gave it water and heat, and it ate a few days later. Now its just as feisty as ever... poops on you and strikes just like a good little kingsnake. It didn't grow much in two years (still about 12" long) but it wasn't skinny. It had a couple of scales missing, and is awfully tiny for a 2-year-old, but other than that seems perfectly healthy!

Cheers,
Ronda
