That's how I find my Leucistic in the aspen, I poke around until I hear the rattle, then I know where he is. My baby king does it when I get too close to her cage while she's eating. The sound doesn't carry quite the way a rattle snakes does, but it's neat none the less. But be carefull, they are apt to nip at you if you pick them up while they are rattling! Seems to be a baby thing for the captive breds as I've never had a captive bred adult do it. Even the wild ones should outgrow it once they get used to you.
