Hi,
I'm new around here, just hoping someone can give me some advice. I've got three snakes, two adult male Carolina corns, one snow and one red and an adult female albino Mexican Black Rat. I've had them for about three years now and have never had anything to worry about aside from feeding them and changing their water, they're all healthy, friendly animals.
About two months back my rat snake escaped - she's prone to doing this, I just let her turn up when she's hungry, she invariably does. I found her on the kitchen floor on Friday morning, scooped her up and popped her back in the tank with the others.
She's just laid 4 eggs - I am really surprised, I had no idea she was pregnant. I've taken the eggs out of the tank gently and put them on damp paper towel in a sealed tupperware box which is in a warm room. She's looking a bit peeved and lethargic but I've just let her be for the time being.
Can anyone help me? Should I be concerned for the health of the mother? How can I do my best for the health of the embryos? I really have no idea what I'm doing here, I've got about 2 paragraphs in an idiot's guide to snake keeping to go on and according to that I've messed up several times already by not giving her anywhere to lay. Is there any way I can tell if the eggs are alive?
Many thanks for any advice.
Cheers,
Jim
