In Reply to: How to incubate Black Rat Snake Eggs posted by Josh Hess on April 06, 2001 at 18:01:38:
Chances of albino offspring is about one in 100,000 - don't even concern yourself with the possibility, it won't happen.
If you have eggs you have to balance temps and moisture. keep them fairly warm (around 78-88), keep them moist but not damp. One set up, use under-tank heater to keep proper temps. Soak vermiculite, squeeze till almost dry, place vermiculite in tupperware in warm tank, very gently bury eggs 2/3rds the way under the vermiculite. leave alone for 8 weeks.
But if you have any hope of breeding snakes you need to read! Get any and every book available. Even still you'll have to learn from experience.
: Black Rat Snakes being my favorite colubrid, I was hoping that someone could tell me how to incubate them properly and what the chances are for any of the hatchlings to be albino (these are wild caught snakes)? Any info. would be helpful.
: Thanks,
