While I have never had one as calm as Patrick's by any means, I have had some that would calm dwon after removing them from the cage.
It was still exciting getting them out though, as they would be quite defensive until you managed to get hold of them.
I have never had one myself that didn't puff the throat and go through the rest of the defensive displays.
The female I have currently is probably an extreme example of this, as she rears up a full third of her body, puffs her throat, and gapes her mouth, and will do this as long as she perceives a threat. She even performs like this sometimes when I am holding her. It's quite interesting behavior.
I have to watch her closely though, as she bites randomly, and you don't always see it coming. She is especially fond of facial strikes as well, and this tends to keep you on your toes haha.
