In Reply to: Is Elaphe guttata emoryi considered a rat or corn snake? posted by Fred on March 22, 2001 at 22:55:17:

: Does anyone know?
Elaphe g. emoryi is both a Corn Snake (guttuta) AND a Rat Snake (genus Elaphe). In some parts of the range, they are referred to as a "Corn Snake"(Stebbins), where in most of their range, Corn Snakes are often referred to as"Red Rat Snakes". All of these common terms are acceptable. As far as their taxonomic classification is concerned, I am very anti-Collins, and therefore continue to recognize E.g.emoryi as a full sub, just as I refuse to acknowledge the Eastern and Western Fox as being full species, among other things.
