The taiwans are fascinating snakes, and for me thier size is one of the appealing qualities about them. When I first reproduced this species, I was initially amazed by the size of the eggs, they were by far the largest colubrid eggs I had ever seen with unusually thick shells. Then they hatched and the size of the hatchlings treated me to another bout of amazement, they averages 15-16 inches at birth. I was expecting this considering the egg size, but it was still a surprise when I actually saw them.
I really can't say anything bad about this species, they are by far one of my favorites. A single hatchling has struck at me and that is the extent of any agression shown by any of them so far. They have huge appetites, and other than the males during breeding season, they practically never refuse food. I even reproduce mine without brumation.
The size has posed no problems for me, but they can be a handful when you are holding them. They are very active and constantly on the move when you have them out.
I house my adults seperately, and recommend a 4'x2' cage for full grown adults.
I don't know of any care sheets on this species, but their care is very straight forward. I keep them like any other colubrid, just everything is larger.
