persistant bad sheds ?

I have had a wc black rat for about a year now that just has the most awful sheds you've ever seen, always comes off in tatters over several days! I've been keeping snakes for MANY years and have never seen anything like this, I presently have a boa, two other blk. rats, and a northern watersnake, all living in the same room under the same conditions, similar cages. all are healthy, good eaters and well tempered. Anyone have any idea as to what's up with this guy? Or sugestions as to what may help?
