Hi,
I am assuming you saw these on Southern Reptiles web page/list?? I saw the same photos, perhaps a better pic of them will be posted in the future. Based on the current pics on their page, they don't look much different than a normal black rat. I check that page often to see if updated pics have been posted, I would love to see some new ones.
In my opinion, an "anery" or axanthic black rat wouldnt look much different from a normal. The pic above is a WC rat snake that I found a few years back. It APPEARED to be axanthic, but died in brumation before she was bred. She had no red or yellow at all, which is unusual for a black rat. Note the whiteish cast in her interstitial skin. I think I posted the same pic a few weeks ago.
I would really like to get my hands on an anery or axanthic black rat, I feel that some very interesting morphs could result. Imagine if this gene was introduced into "greenish" rats... strip away the yellow pigment from an olive-green snake and a "blue" snake should result, similar to axanthic bullfrogs. ;)
Take care,
dg
