Black rats

I am in love with wildlife native to ohio. And I would like to focus a collection on them. I have a cali. kingsnake now but that is besides the point. Since I am in college I have limited resourses on pets. I wanted a lizard but a snake would fit my life better. It doesn't need to eat as much. I am looking into either milk or black ratsnakes. I am wondering how big a black rat gets? what you feed it? and minimum tank size? Keep in mind that I like a naturalistic setting so please no sweater box ideas. Thanks
