First off, a 7' Spilotes isn't that big. I have a pair of 9' beauties that are still growing at a rapid rate - should max out around 10' or so.
I keep mine at around 88F for a DTH dropping down to 80F or so for a low. They react strongly to misting as their activity rate triples and they basically writhe around in the "rain" like a lost desert wanderer coming across an oasis (sorry but thats the best way to describe it). I have them in a 5'x5'x4' cage w/tons of branches though they're suprisingly terrestrial. Huge hide box is well used and mine take thawed adult mice from my hand (movement seems key - sorta like a monstrous Racer).
They love to soak but inevitably defecate in the tub. 3-4 adult mice a week is the norm and they are insatiable. I plan to "cool" them for 80 days or so at around 62F and then crank up the heat and humidity to a max of 88F and 70% respectively (after a period of 84F and 20% that I've maintained all Summer).
Mine are "tame" in as much as they show no threat displays and have never bitten me but they are very uncomfortable when handled. Hope this helps - Bill
