What can folks tell me about asian beauty rat snakes? (I wish we used scientific names...there's starting to be way to many types of beauties with stores seeming to use the different names interchangably)

There's an adult for sale in one of the nastier reptile stores in Denver. They're asking $250 for him, which seems a little high to me. But I'm thinking about buying it for my husband for his holiday gift. My main incentives being (1) my husband is obsessed with this snake (2) I'm utterly disgusted by the conditions. They have him in a ten gallon tank (he's as nearly as large as my adult blue beauties) that hasn't been changed or cleaned since he's been in the store--at least 2 months. He's grossly obese. I hate to encourage the existence of this store by giving them money, but....

If anyone has information on these snakes, I'd appreciate it.
