: I have never kept manderins but I do have a friend that purchased a trio of wild caughts because they were so cheap. One female died about 3 months later. The remaining pair was loaded with bugs and the vet bills started to add up. They do not like to eat. They have never shown any sign of breeding what so ever, And in my opinion they never will. I have also heard lots of stories from others that are very similar to this. If you are only looking for a pet maybe its a good idea. If you want to breed them and work with them in that manner i would pay the extra few hundred bucks and get the captive bred animals

The cbs came from somewhere other than captivity. The main problem is getting animals that are from a dealer who is responsible enough to de-parasitize them properly. It is also a good idea to get them in the Fall or early Spring before the weather is too warm. A few tips are allowing them a cage with a substrate like peat or spaghnum with both a dry and damp area and give them pediolyte to drink for a couple of weeks instead of water. THis well mean changing the pediolyte daily. There is a lot of risk, but with cbs still going for $500 each minimum and wcs for $35 or so, it's worth the risk if you are a good keeper and a bit of a gambler. Jim
