Hi!
Flavirufa hatchlings are anything but small. My hatchlings could easily eat small fuzzy mice right after their first shed. No problem eaters, either . . . just nice robust baby snakes! The eggs must have been a good 3" long.
My adults, on the other hand, can be a little finicky. They will typically grab a mouse readily, but if they see me moving around in my reptile room, they won't eat it. They have also gone through a few "I don't want frozen mice" phases, but they snap out of it after a few feedings.
I'm not sure what you consider a "smallish" snake, but my adults are larger than my corn snakes. By the way, I have E. flavirufa flavirufa. Maybe the subspecies pardalina is smaller?
Cheers,
Ronda
