The Ukrainian hatchlings wouldn't eat pinkies, but ate baby snakes (red-bellies) instead. Schulz said they also ate fish. After a little growth they switched to pinkies.

The Cen. Chinese dione were robust and ate pinkies with ease even before their first shed. They also grew much faster and larger than the Ukrainian.
