Ronda, I agree that their feeding behavior is a little difficult to deal with, but not too different from other species from the far north, such as schrencki, dione, and the American ratsnakes, vulpina and gloydi. These guys tend to have on-again, off-again, feeding behaviors, I think probably because of the very unpredictable climates they come from. One week the weather is almost subtropical and the next you could swear winter was coming. I tend to just go with the flow. When they're hungry I bulk them up as much as I think is safe. Then they usually go on a fast again for awhile. The ones from this far north that are w/c are really difficult because they usually want to get ready for brumation in September. I once hibernated a Russian rat for seven months with no apparent problems. Hope this helps. TC.
